Facts:
  • Get off the beaten track and enjoy the relaxed company of a small group from all walks of life.
  • We organise monthly bushwalks, outings and activities for a wide range of ages, interests and abilities. Most important to us all is the informal, friendly and relaxed atmosphere in which that these activities are undertaken.
  • We publish a two-monthly newsletter, which keeps our group up to date. This is available via Australia Post or via the internet as an E mail attachment. As the website is updated more regularly, as the newsletter, it is worthwhile keeping your eyes out for the tours on the net.
  • There is no joining fee or membership charge. You do not pay for newsletters or any kind of administration. Where an activity or excursion involves a cost, you simply pay as you go.

Participation
We welcome your participation. Wherever possible we plan for and actively encourage everyone to participate at their own level.
We try to mix our walking program around a little to enable a variety of difficulty levels and environments. Almost always where a moderate walk is promoted, there will be an easier walk option available on the day.
Our excursions and tours are operated with a higher personal interaction level than some mainstream outings which you may have participated in. It’s a friendly and down to earth way to enjoy some great conversations and be refreshed by nature!

We need to be at Beaudesert by 8 Am to register and get ourselves organised.  Most of the participants will be travelling on buses out to the start of the walk, however we will be self contained and use our own vehicle to get around.

Walkers can expect to be sharing the experience with 100 or so other walkers from around the area.

At the end of the program, those who are coming just for the day will be returned to Brisbane.

A commemoration of Indigenous peoples and Chinese Shepherds who came together at Christmas Creek and  Kerry Creek Circa 1850.

This walk is about 9.5 km long and is expected to take you from the bottom of the valley to the top of the Jinbroken Range (Where a sausage sizzle awaits you) and back down again.

When I say expected, it’s just that right now, the organiser cannot tell us exactly which route will be used on the day. So.. Expect some hill climbing, huffing and puffing just in case!

The Shepherds Walk event is an annual public event, so we are merely joining in.  Some of you may have done it a few years ago.

We need to be at Beaudesert just before 8 AM, so it will be a very early start from Brisbane.

You can expect a great day out, spectacular views and some tired legs.

Those staying on will be treated to a night at Cebra Farmhouse. On the Sunday we will stay on the property until just after lunch (picnic somewhere nice) before returning to Brisbane.

We never need much of a reason to spend more time in the beautiful Scenic Rim region.  With that amazing mountain backdrop and (hopefully) a clear winter’s day we already have two good reasons.

Getting there is half the fun…Last time we were up that way the bus broke down.. remember?

Glen Rock Park preserves a diverse range of landforms, vegetation and wildlife. It stretches from the fertile flats of the Blackfellow, Shady, Flaggy and Black Duck creeks to the rugged gorges, ridges and high plateau country of the Great Dividing and Mistake ranges.

The vegetation communities range from open woodlands and rocky escarpments to dry vine scrub and rainforest. Wildlife such as the vulnerable brush-tailed rock wallaby, powerful owl and glossy black cockatoo inhabit the area.

There are no formal walking tracks in the park, however there is a big choice of 4WD style trails to explore.  Getting up to the lookouts involves tackling some fairly steep terrain.  There are great picnic facilities lower down, and the whole place is entirely pleasant.

 Don’t forget your lunch.
